The world knows Sammy Hagar as the Red Rocker, the 11-year frontman of Van Halen (after David Lee Roth) and the guy who “can’t drive 55.”

But he’s also a best-selling author, entrepreneur, philanthropist, restaurateur, liquor producer, media personality, husband and father.

Hagar, now 73, has been performing and recording rock music since 1967, but still hasn’t taken his foot off the gas. (Apparently, slowing down isn’t an option for someone with 25 Ferraris in his “garage.”)

Sammy Hagar and The Circle will rock Key West’s Coffee Butler Amphitheater on May 23. Tickets go on sale at noon Friday, April 9 at thekeywestamp.com, but Key West locals can download a code for a special local pre-sale on Thursday, April 8. Visit thekeywesttheater.com for details.

“After being shut down for a year due to COVID, Rams Head is thrilled to welcome Sammy Hagar & The Circle to the stunning Coffee Butler Amphitheater for an epic night of live music,” said Brianna Gangi, marketing director of Rams Head Presents – Key West, which manages the city’s Coffee Butler Amphitheater and hosts all-star acts at The Key West Theater, 512 Eaton St.

“With plenty of food, booze and artisan vendors, and a one-in-a-million view of the Gulf of Mexico, Coffee Butler Amphitheater is ready to welcome music lovers back through the gates and rock the island.”

For nearly 40 years, Hagar has been one of rock music’s most dynamic and prolific artists. From breaking in with the pioneering hard rock band Montrose and a multi-platinum solo career, to his ride as the frontman of Van Halen, the “Red Rocker” has set the tone for some of the greatest rock anthems ever written with songs like “I Can’t Drive 55,”

“Right Now,” and “Why Can’t This Be Love.” He’s earned the highest respect of the music industry with a Grammy Award and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside Van Halen.

“Space Between,” his debut album with The Circle, entered the U.S. Billboard 200 chart at No. 4 in May 2019 and debuted at No. 1 on four Billboard charts, including: #1-Top Album Sales, #1-Top Rock Albums, #1-Hard Rock Albums and #1-Independent Albums.

The band toured throughout 2019 in support of the album, earning universal praise from fans and critics. The Circle kicked off 2021 with the release of “Lockdown 2020,” an album collection of their massively popular Lockdown Sessions, featuring raw and raucous compact covers of classic hits that they had jammed to backstage, but never planned to record. Recorded remotely by each band member during the COVID stay-at-homes, the digital music videos which include hits like The Who’s “Won‘t Get Fooled Again,” Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds,” AC/DC “Whole Lotta Rosie” and David Bowie’s “Heroes” had already reached an online audience of more than 30 million before the album’s release.
