A new Tesla Model X Freebee vehicle is providing residents and visitors with transportation service from upper Plantation Key to Lower Matecumbe Key.  The Freebee Electric Vehicle Ridesharing Service began providing transportation on Upper Matecumbe Key in November 2018. The village was able to expand the popular Freebee program to serve all of Islamorada in March 2020 with two new larger electric vehicles that can drive on the highway and cross bridges. Alliance seeks to keep residents apprised of village issues

A recently-formed “alliance” is setting out to keep Islamorada residents up to date and informed on the various matters happening in the village. Creation of the Islamorada Community Alliance began last year by residents Cheryl Meads, former councilwoman and current South Florida Water Management District governing board member; longtime resident Capt. More than 80 apply for Islamorada village manager position

A search for the next Islamorada village manager yielded more than 80 candidates from 30 states. A candidate evaluation is underway by the village-hired consultant firm, Colin Baenziger & Associates, to whittle the number down.  Then-manager Seth Lawless resigned for health reasons last summer. That led to the naming of village Finance Director Maria Bassett as acting village manager.  Recruitment started on March 12 and concluded April 9 with 82 applications received by Baenziger. Federal Keys coastal resilience plan enters final stage

A study by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers nears completion as various governments confront coastal storm and flood vulnerability in the Florida Keys.
