On April 12-13, the girls and boys tennis players from MHS went on a quick overnight trip to Miami where they played in their district matches at the Crandon Park Tennis Center.
The girls competed early Monday morning against five other teams from the district. The girls didn’t come home with any wins, but collectively agreed that they had played some of their best matches against the hardest opponents.
“Lilian (Guo) has possibly played one of the best matches of her season,” said Coach Richard Lorenzo of the team’s top ranked girl player. She finished with a (6-8) score.

Marathon High School seniors Owen Pitchford and Katerina Nikiforova were named to the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Team for the 2020/21 school year.
The FHSAA considers this its most prestigious end-of-the-year award for student athletes. Twenty-four student athletes around the state are named to the team each year. Pitchford and Nikiforova each will receive a $1,700 scholarship and the possibility of being named the Student Athlete of the Year for Florida and receiving an additional scholarship worth $4,600.

Two and a half homecoming couples walked onto the field at Marathon High School on April 2. Cecily Ozbun was crowned queen. But the king, Tucker Carlson, was absent due to quarantine. Joining Ozbun on the field were Izzy Kingsley and Patrick Daniher, and Matt Kratzert and Bella Fryza.

“Grease” was a play before it was a blockbuster movie. In fact, at the time that it closed its run on Broadway in 1980, it had racked up more than 3,000 performances since its start in 1971. The play has different songs, and the school version of the play is very G-rated when compared to the original production.
Marathon High School’s drama club will perform “Grease” this weekend — Friday and Saturday, April 9-10 with a 7 p.m. curtain, and on Sunday, April 11 with a 2 p.m. curtain.
