THIS WEEKEND: KEY WEST BREWFEST IS BACK!

The Key West Sunrise Rotary Club is making its third attempt to hold its 10th annual Key West Brewfest. The pandemic forced the cancellation of last year’s event, and the threat of Hurricane Dorian put the kibosh on the 2019 event. But as of Wednesday afternoon, this year’s 10th annual Key West Brewfest is a go, said Charlie Mench, one of the organizers of the sudsy event that raises money for the Rotary club’s local scholarship programs and other charitable endeavors. But they certainly make it easy to support a good cause, when the signature tasting event on Saturday, Sept. 4 offers scores...

Former NFL player Malcolm Mitchell gives pep talk in the Florida Keys

“Be the coffee beans.” It was an odd but effective message to come from a former New England Patriots wide receiver. But then again, Malcolm Mitchell’s career trajectory has also been odd, but extremely effective. Mitchell spoke Monday at a back-to-school rally for Monroe County School District teachers, staff and members of the high school football teams. He was at Key West High School early Monday morning and at Coral Shores in the afternoon. Retired New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell wore his Super Bowl ring while speaking at Key West and Coral Shores high schools on Aug....

COMEDIAN PAULA POUNDSTONE RETURNS TO KEY WEST THEATER AUG. 21

As soon as comedian Paula Poundstone picks up the call, there’s a crackling energy on the other end of the line. She imparts a hearty, genuine greeting before launching into a conversation about masks that quickly leads her to wonder if it might be kind for society to start an “Awkward Chin Support Group” now that we’re all feeling so exposed. It’s easy to see how this woman has been charming her fans and relating to live audiences for 40 years. (I also begin to wonder if I should be self-conscious about my chin.) Poundstone’s upcoming Aug. 21 comedy show at Key West Theater couldn’t arrive...
