PAM HOBBS’ TROPICAL PAINTINGS ARE AS BRIGHT AS SHE IS

Key West artist Pam Hobbs’ work is as colorful and fun as her bubbly personality. Imagine the most whimsical of poems by Shel Silverstein mixed into an illustrative world from the mind of Dr. Seuss himself. Now add a splash of the most vibrant colors and patterns you can imagine with the chroma (vivid) oil paints.  Personally, I cannot even talk to Hobbs without smiling and I can’t look at a single one of her paintings without this same level of joy. I find myself wanting to jump inside one of her paintings for a little nap on the beach or perhaps just for a tropical mixed drink.  Hobbs is a...

TICKETS NOW ON SALE FOR SAMMY HAGAR CONCERT IN KEY WEST ON MAY 23

The world knows Sammy Hagar as the Red Rocker, the 11-year frontman of Van Halen (after David Lee Roth) and the guy who “can’t drive 55.” But he’s also a best-selling author, entrepreneur, philanthropist, restaurateur, liquor producer, media personality, husband and father.  Hagar, now 73, has been performing and recording rock music since 1967, but still hasn’t taken his foot off the gas. (Apparently, slowing down isn’t an option for someone with 25 Ferraris in his “garage.”)  Sammy Hagar and The Circle will rock Key West’s Coffee Butler Amphitheater on May 23. Tickets go on sale at noon Friday,...

MHS PERFORMS ‘GREASE’ THIS WEEKEND

“Grease” was a play before it was a blockbuster movie. In fact, at the time that it closed its run on Broadway in 1980, it had racked up more than 3,000 performances since its start in 1971. The play has different songs, and the school version of the play is very G-rated when compared to the original production. Marathon High School’s drama club will perform “Grease” this weekend — Friday and Saturday, April 9-10 with a 7 p.m. curtain, and on Sunday, April 11 with a 2 p.m. curtain. “It took me a while to appreciate the differences between the movie and the play,” said director Carrollyn Cox,...

An island Easter

A group of Keys visitors took paint brush to canvas as they readied themselves for an Easter masterpiece of epic proportions. Leading the painting event was local artist Brittany Parker.  Derek Papp paints some bunny tracks in the sand during the Easter paint and sip. Bowen takes a break from painting a tree to pose for the camera. The post An island Easter appeared first on Florida Keys...
